Mahindra & Mahindra is setting its sights on the global markets with a comprehensive array of new offerings, groundbreaking innovations, and cutting-edge technology. The homegrown automaker has unveiled its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, accompanied by the introduction of two exciting concepts – the Thar.e and the Global Pik Up.
The new Mahindra Global Pik Up concept, derived from the Scorpio N, is primed for introduction in markets spanning South Africa, South & Central America, and ASEAN. Additionally, the brand has detailed the launch schedule for its upcoming electric SUV lineup, which will showcase a fresh logo and have their sounds crafted by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.
Mahindra’s forthcoming electric SUVs are poised to redefine the landscape, with the promise of four new EVs gracing the roads by mid-2026. These models will be crafted on the bedrock of the brand’s innovative INGLO EV skateboard platform, falling under two distinctive sub-brands – XUV.e and BE. The production iteration of the Mahindra XUV.e8 will make its debut in December 2024, while the XUV.e9 will find its way to the market in April 2025. Looking further ahead, the Mahindra BE.05 and BE.07 electric SUVs are earmarked for an exciting April 2026 launch.
Mahindra has unveiled the driving force behind these innovative electric vehicles, emphasizing the presence of high-performance electric powertrains (compact 3-in-1) integrated into all INGLO platform-based EVs. Initial power will be harnessed from LFP batteries sourced from BYD, complemented by electric motors supplied by Valeo. The XUV.e electric SUVs will proudly sport Valeo’s electric motor, adorning the rear axle with a single motor configuration capable of 231bhp (170kW) and 380Nm.
Meanwhile, the Mahindra BE 05 and BE 07 electric SUVs will harness powertrains from Volkswagen, presenting both 2WD and 4WD options. The former features a rear-mounted electric motor, generating 286bhp (210kW) and 535Nm, while the latter boasts a dual-motor setup on the front axle, delivering 109bhp (80kW) and 135Nm. Mahindra assures enthusiasts that these powertrains are currently in the testing phase, set to deliver exceptional performance.
Mahindra’s commitment to an enhanced driving experience extends to a wealth of features in its upcoming electric SUVs. A revamped infotainment system takes center stage with three 12.3-inch, 720p screens seamlessly integrated across the width of the dashboard. Elevating the auditory experience, Mahindra has partnered with Sony to Harman/Kardon to equip its electric SUVs with a 16-speaker Dolby Atmos, 3D surround sound system.
Furthermore, a Head-Up Display (HUD) will project augmented reality (AR) visuals onto the windshield for navigation, media, phone usage, and driving. The EVs are equipped with Level 2 autonomous ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) technology, OTA (Over-The-Air) updates, onboard 5G connectivity, vehicle-to-X (V2X) capabilities, and connected car technology, ensuring a seamlessly integrated and forward-thinking driving experience.
