This new-generation Karizma sets itself apart from its predecessor in terms of design, features, platform, and engine dynamics. Brief History of Hero Karizma

Before we delve into the comparison, let’s briefly explore its history. The bike was initially introduced in 2007 as the Hero Honda Karizma R, receiving a minor cosmetic update in 2011. The lineup expanded to include a fully-faired Karizma ZMR variant in 2009, boasting Programmed Fuel Injection (PFI). In 2012, post the Hero Honda JV separation, the bike was rebranded as the Hero Karizma R. A generational shift occurred in 2014, bringing about slight design tweaks, performance enhancements, and a clip-on handlebar setup.

In contrast, the previous-generation Karizma housed a 223cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine generating 17.2bhp at 7,000rpm and 18.33Nm at 6,000rpm. This powertrain enabled acceleration from 0 to 60kmph in under 5 seconds and 100kmph in under 15 seconds. Equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, the old Karizma R had lower gearing for the first three gears and taller ratios for the fourth and fifth. It boasted a city mileage of around 30kmpl and highway efficiency of 70kmpl.

The 2023 Karizma XMR 210 ditches the USD (upside-down) forks, opting for conventional telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The bike features petal disc brakes at both ends, along with standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS).

Comparatively, the old Hero Karizma R embraced a single downtube frame suspended by a telescopic fork and preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers at the rear. It rode on a pair of 2.75/18 front and 100-90/18 rear tyres, with braking duties handled by a 276mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum.

The all-new 2023 Hero Karizma XMR 210 certainly captivates attention with its aggressive front facade and sharp contours. Boasting an LED headlight, LED DRLs, sculpted fuel tank, sizeable windscreen, and a sleek fairing with integrated mirrors, the bike exudes a bold presence. The side fairing, extending towards the engine casing, contributes to the aesthetic. It includes a clip-on handlebar and split seat setup. The rear showcases a compact upswept exhaust, LED taillights, and a tidy tail section. The new Karizma XMR introduces USB charging and turn-by-turn navigation (1st in the segment), accompanied by a rectangular fully digital instrument cluster featuring a central tachometer and speedometer.

In contrast, the previous Hero Karizma R, lauded for its touring capabilities, drew design inspiration from the Honda VFR 800, evident in its fairings and sharp panels. The bike boasted an electric starter, analogue tachometer and speedometer, and a digital fuel gauge.
