Renault India Plans 9 New Models

French automaker Renault has an ambitious product offensive strategy for the Indian market. The company is set to introduce nine new models, which will encompass facelifted versions of popular models such as the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, in addition to their lineup of electric vehicles (EVs). This diverse range of products is scheduled to be rolled out over the next 2-3 years.

Renault has officially confirmed its intention to launch at least two EVs as part of this strategy. The company’s inaugural EV will be an electric variant of the well-known Kwid hatchback. Notably, the Renault Kwid EV has already made its debut in select global markets under the name Dacia Spring EV. Renault’s plan is to introduce this EV to the Indian market by late 2024 or early 2025.

Beyond this, Renault is committed to equipping its entire product range with six airbags as a standard feature. Additionally, the company is working on developing flex-fuel vehicles, which are currently in the initial stages of development. Earlier in the year, the Renault-Nissan Alliance unveiled an ambitious blueprint to create, produce, market, and export six new models, including four SUVs and two ‘A’ segment EVs. This endeavor entails a substantial investment of $600 million (equivalent to Rs 5,300 crore) in India. Furthermore, part of this expansion initiative involves the establishment of a manufacturing facility situated in Orgadam, near Chennai. Notably, this facility will operate entirely on renewable energy sources by the year 2045. Read: New-Gen Renault Duster Debut & Launch Details

Turning attention to Renault’s inaugural electric vehicle, the Kwid EV is poised to enter a market segment without any direct competitors. Nonetheless, it will inevitably contend with models like the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and MG Comet when it comes to pricing. Renault has officially stated that the electric Kwid will be constructed on the CMF-A platform, potentially featuring an initial localization level ranging between 55% and 60%. Presently, Renault is in active discussions with numerous local vendors to secure cells for its EVs. If these efforts progress as planned, Renault’s EV lineup could achieve an impressive localization level of 85-90%.
